Create your own mini beach

Your mini beach or mine? Creating a beach-themed backyard can give you a relaxing coastal escape at home; here's how.

 An instant basic mini beach

Choose a grassy spot in your backyard or deck for a quick fix.  Add a rug or towels to define your beach space and complete it with the things you would normally take to the beach.

Add beach chairs, a side table,  beach towels and an umbrella.  Throw as many cushions about the place as you desire, grab a book, whip up your favourite summer cocktail, and you're set.

A complete backyard beach vibe

Choose an area where you can add sand to mimic the beachfront.

At the Beach bungalow, we used Dromana River sand and added a bamboo screen from Bunnings to the old fence.

 2. Beach brass, plants and sand. Plant beach grasses, palm trees, and other coastal plants to enhance the beachy feel. If your beach is on your deck, buy a potted palm or two.

Adding sand? Roll out some weed matting first to keep your beach free from weeds.

3. Beach-Themed Decor:  Add beach chairs, loungers, umbrellas and a drinks table.

4.  Beach Umbrellas: Use beach umbrellas to provide shade and a beachy atmosphere.

5. Coastal Lighting: Use lanterns, string lights, or torches to create a beachy ambience.

6. Outdoor Shower: Install an outdoor shower with a bamboo or wood enclosure for a post-mini beach rinse. There are plenty of showers that you can connect to a garden tap, like this one.

Have fun creating your mini beach, and enjoy the summer!
